    2024 - 2025
    Head Coach: Lisa McNealus '79

The Equestrian program is offered in both the fall and spring seasons. The program is open to experienced riders as well as those who have little or no experience.

The team trains six days per week at nearby H.M. Savage Farm, a premier full-service facility in Chester, Vermont. This outstanding facility sits on acres of picturesque fields and rolling hills and includes spacious indoor and outdoor arenas where lessons are held. Students in the equestrian program benefit from experienced, knowledgeable, and patient instructors who focus on proper horsemanship and a solid riding foundation. Riders will learn equitation for dressage, hunt seat and western.  Each season, riders also participate in at least one competition with one of our Lake’s Region schools.

    The stable includes:
    • Fully-insulated, lighted indoor arena with mirrors to aid in learning
    • Regulation dressage ring and outdoor arena
    • A beautiful network of well-groomed trails
    • 24 spacious box stalls
    • Multiple turn-out paddocks
    • Fully-equipped tack rooms

Students in the equestrian program benefit from experienced, knowledgeable, and patient instructors. Barn owner Sami Savage is the lead teacher. Most recently Sami and her Dutch warmblood Choice have been training with Anna Marek in Reddick, Florida. In 2012 Sami received her USDF bronze medal and in 2016 she received her USDF silver medal. Sami tailors lessons to each individual rider, whether he/she seeks to compete at a high level or just learn the basics of riding for pleasure.

The stable provides horses for Vermont Academy students to ride; however, students may also board their own horse at H.M. Savage Farm. To learn more about the equestrian program or about, H.M. Savage Farm, please contact Sami Savage at H.M.savagefarm@outlook.com or 802-376-6814.
