    2024 - 2025

At Vermont Academy crew is offered in both the fall and the spring. Each season is slightly different.

Fall Crew: Fall races are called Head races where each boat races down the course individually. The race course is approximately three miles long, and the boat with the fastest time wins. This type of racing is often compared to cross country running.

Spring Crew: During the spring season races are sprint races. In this style race boats are directly competing against one another in lanes for between 1,000 and 1,500 meters.

The majority of our races are on weekends usually in Massachusetts, Connecticut or New Hampshire. Each race features crews from private schools, public schools, and rowing clubs.

We welcome novice oarsmen/women who will learn the skills necessary to eventually race with confidence and poise. Experienced oarsmen/women have the opportunity to further their athletic development and success. The philosophy of our rowing program can be summarized in one word; technique. Our rowers will spend some time on the ergs and in the weight room as well.

Our oarsmen/women have matriculated to some of the top universities in the nation including Dartmouth, University of Washington, Indiana University, and more.
