Generous Donors Give $3.6 Million to Vermont Academy During the 2023-2024 School Year

It is the generosity of donors that makes a transformative education at Vermont Academy possible. Truly, each and every gift, no matter the size, plays an important role in ensuring that our academic and athletic programs help create pathways toward the future for all Vermont Academy students. Being an independent school means that Vermont Academy is a nonprofit organization. Tuition revenue alone does not cover the school’s annual operating budget. It bears repeating that gifts to the annual fund cover things such as financial aid for students who need it, tools our faculty use to help student, educational technology and equpment needed to stay current, professional development for faculty and staff, books for the library, and transportation to sporting events. Every dollar makes a difference and, when combined with the gifts of fellow donors, make possible an incredible learning environment for Wildcat students.

It was the exceptional belief in the difference that a Vermont Academy education can make in the life of a young person that prompted brothers Tom ’59 and Steve ’57 Richardson to make a gift to their alma mater during the fall of 2023. Their gift is being put to work this summer as part of a multi-phased project including upgrades to science classrooms, restoration of Fuller Hall back to classroom space, the restoration of Alumni Hall back to dormitory space, the centralizing of visual and digital media classrooms into Alumni Hall, and the expansion of the fitness center in Lucy Athletic Complex. As Vermont Academy’s 150th anniversary approaches in 2026, a gift of this magnitude has a significant impact on Vermont Academy and its goals.
