Success for Wildcats on the Basketball Court

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team, led by Head Coach Sean Allen and Assistant Coach Michael Norkun, was composed of a fierce roster this season. Entering the playoffs, the team earned the spot as the Class D #4 seed. They hosted the #5 seed Darrow School (NY) on Wednesday, February 28, and won with a final score of 77-59. Moving on to the semifinals, they will travel to play the Class D #1 seed Watkinson School (CT) on Saturday, March 2 at 2:00 pm. 

Coach Norkun commended the teams’ efforts, highlighting that it’s not always about winning, despite the team’s triumph. “The athletes showed up and put in the work, day after day,” he said. “What I did was offer suggestions and provide opportunities for learning the game and improving their court IQ and skill. It's all next game, next play attitude. Sure, winning and losing is part of the game, but it's not the most important part for these young athletes with bigger aspirations around hoops.”

Adding onto Coach Norkun’s sentiments, Coach Allen details how the team’s drive to succeed led them to where they are today. “These players are now seeing the work that they put in day in and day out pay off,”  he explained. “As a talented and determined group of athletes, they have the capability to reach their goal of winning the championship, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.”

The Boys’ Prep Basketball team, led by Head Coach John Zall and Assistant Coach Charles Butler, was a force to be reckoned with this season. Entering the playoffs, the boys were positioned as the #1 seed in the Class AAA playoffs. They hosted South Kent School on Wednesday, February 28, and, after a close game, emerged victorious with a score of 60-61. They will host Class AAA #4 seed The Newman School on Saturday, March 2 for the NEPSAC Class AAA Semifinal game at 2:00 pm.

Coach Zall praised his team’s collective philosophies this past school year. "I'm so proud of our players’ mindsets all season," he said. “From the first workout in September, they have been so focused and driven on their development. They push each other to be better and genuinely root for their teammates' success."
