A Thrilling Trip to the Theater for the Class of 2028
On Wednesday October 9, Vermont Academy 9th grade students attended The Woman in Black at the Weston Playhouse in Weston, VT. The Weston Theater Company presents beautiful, entertaining stories performed by astonishingly talented artists from near and far. Attending a production of this caliber is an exciting opportunity for VA’s newest class.
Peter Ahlfeld, director of the Center for Learning and coordinator of the MAPS® program, math faculty, and 9th grade class dean remarked, “It’s so gratifying to bring students to live theater and watch how they react.” For nine of the students, this was their first experience going to the theater to see a play that wasn’t a school production.
The playhouse was full of other high school students, and the fantastic actors captivated all in attendance. The beginning started slow but quickly the students were on the edge of their seats as “fear and fascination collided” and the plot continued to unfold.
The performance was very thought provoking and the stage was simple which allowed for the students to really use their imagination. The drive back to campus was spent reflecting on the play. The students shared exciting conversations while they all detailed their thoughts and ideas.
Events like this theater outing are valuable to the VA student body, especially our 9th graders, as they continue to form relationships and build community with one another. VA is excited to continue the tradition of a fall theater trip next year!
