The 2015-2016 season opener for the Varsity Girls Ice Hockey team was an end-to-end game until the final buzzer. Deerfield upset Vermont Academy 3-2 in the final two minutes of play when they broke the 2-2 tie with a top corner shot past a screened VA goaltender, Anais Aurard '17.  The Wildcats opened up the scoring in the first with a faceoff draw won by Fred Creighton '18 back to Chloe Aurard ’17 who immediately fired a shot on goal that went past the goaltender.  Deerfield responded with a goal late in the first period to have the two teams tied at 1-1.
At the 12:44 mark of the second period, Deerfield scored off a rebound that just snuck past Anais. Unable to come back in the second, the Wildcats went to the locker room down by a score of 1-2.
At the 11:46 mark of the 3rd period, Lotti Odnoga ’18 netted her first career goal in a Vermont Academy jersey with a powerful shot to the back of the Deerfield goal.  Despite multiple scoring opportunities, the two teams remained tied for most of the third period. With only 2:01 left in the game, Deerfield found the back of the Vermont Academy net with a shot through traffic.  The Wildcats will travel again tomorrow to Proctor Academy for their first Lakes Region game of the season.
