Join fellow alumni of color from Vermont Academy and northern New England independent schools for a panel discussion about code-switching, career preparedness, and the boarding school experience. 

This event will begin with a panel discussion and will be followed by an optional speed-networking opportunity using Glimpse.

  • Lawrence Alexander | Practice Leader for Carney, Sandoe & Associates' Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Practice
    Lawrence is the practice leader for Carney, Sandoe & Associates' Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Practice. He started his career in higher education before spending a decade at independent schools working as a college counselor and as a Director of Equity and Inclusion.

  • Miguel Allport '07 (Vermont Academy), Graphic Design
    Miguel is a senior designer whose experience includes action sports, the entertainment industry, and real estate. His design focus lies in live media, experiential activations, and branding.
  • Malcolm Boyd '03 (Cardigan Mountain School), Finance
  • Penelope Durand '12 (White Mountain School), Education
    Penelope works as a Spanish teacher in East New York with a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry. Penelope graduated from Goucher College with a double major in Psychology & Political Science and a minor focused in Latin American Studies from Goucher College. 
  • Nathan McBeath '10 (Holderness School), Finance
    Nathan is a Finance Lead for the SAAS company Hubspot, while pursuing his part-time two-year MBA at the University of Florida. Prior to Hubspot, Nathan worked at Deloitte Consulting and ConcertAI, a rapidly growing oncology-focused biotechnology firm. Nathan recently relocated to Chicago.
  • Lizzy Takyi (Dublin School), Social Studies Teacher at MESA Charter High School
    Born and raised in Accra, Ghana, Lizzy Takyi’s family  moved to Newark, NJ when she was 10 years old. Her Trans-Atlantic journey guided her interest in pursuing a degree in Cultural Anthropology. Lizzy is currently living in Brooklyn, New York as a Social Studies teacher at MESA Charter High School.
